With the prospects of big labs ESS and MAX IV, and the coming need of accelerator technology, companies in the region need to learn how to provide the required technology. To enable companies to compete internationally regarding design, construction, maintenance of high technology accelerator related equipment, close cooperation between Danish, Norwegian and Swedish universities and companies is essential.

CATE aims at strengthening sustainable economic growth in the Oresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak-region by contributing to the development of a cluster in accelerator technology. This will position the region in relation to other regions with similar conditions, and raise its profile in an international context. Since many of the products and services needed are very complex by nature, knowledge transfer between academia and industry is needed in order to succeed. This project will identify companies with potential of producing equipment in accordance with the requirements of accelerator based operations. After the identification process, a sub cluster will be initiated amongst the relevant companies to create sustainable collaboration. This is only possible as a cross border project, since none of the three countries have capacities substantial enough to manage this development on a national basis.

CATE brings a new way for the region to benefit from future investments in research plants, contributing to economic growth and job opportunities. Furthermore, this project will extend knowledge cross borders, cross professions and create a link between very specialised academic knowledge and production of relevant equipment.
