The Øresund Region has one of the greatest concentrations of ICT industries (Information and Communication Technology) in Europe with more than 100.000 employees, 8.000 students and 5.500 researchers. BrandIT Phase 1 and 2 worked to create international focus on the ICT industry in the Oresund Region.

International focus leads to growth
International ITC companies often place their reseach facilities in areas where many similar companies reside. For ICT companies, the city of Barcelona has been such an area. A high concentration of research facilities often results in an increase in international investments, new companies and thus knowledge.

In order to increase economic growth in the Oresund Region, the project BrandIT worked to create more focus on the 10 000 information- and communication technology companies that exist in the region, the ICT cluster. By increasing the international branding of the ICT cluster, the project saw a potential for creating even more growth in this sector.

The 12th largest cluster in Europe
BrandIT carried out a number of studies of the ICT cluster's strenghs and weaknesses. The project also carried out a benchmarking study to compare the ICT cluster in the Oresund Region with other large clusters in Europe. One of the conclusions from the studies pointed out that the ICT cluster in the Oresund Region was about the 12th largest cluster in Europe.

Basis for a continued branding
The studies and work in BrandIT Phase 1 made a strong basis for continuing the work and the branding of the ICT cluster. A part of this work is continued in the Cluster 55, a regional and international network, which supports companies and members of the cluster to brand and increase the sector in this part of Europe.

The project also continued in a BrandIT Phase 2. However, the second phase of the project had to close early due to disagreements in the partnership.
