Sustainable energy from sources like the wind, ocean, and sun is even more important in the future than now. The project Energy Oresund wanted to increase the knowledge and competences in energy planning of sustainable energy across the Oresund, thus improving our way of saving energy in the most efficient way.

Common climate challenge
The climate challenge is a common one in the Oresund Region. If the CO2-emissions increase on the Danish side of Oresund, it affects the environment on the Swedish side. Therefore, territorial cooperation is crutial. The project Energy Oresund wanted to create a territorial cooperation between municipalities, universities, energy firms, waste management companies, business associations and energy offices. The goal was to make the Oresund Region the first CO2-neutral border region in Europe.

Planning Energy across Oresund
For three years, 15 Swedish and Danish partners worked on strategic energy planning in the Oresund Region. They focused on how sustainable energy like wind power can become a part of our current energy system. This way, energy is cheaper and more environmentally friendly. The project completed several types of activities within wind power, transportation of electricity, and the dialogue between contractors on how to construct buildings in a more ecofriendly way.

Among other things, the project produced guide lines and recommendations for municipalities who are planning to build energy supplies in new urban areas. These guide lines are based on examples and best practice from both Sweden and Denmark and thus they can be used in both countries in the future.
