Food is essential for human beings, but also for the Oresund Region. Food Best Oresund wanted to brand the region as the one of the leading European Research & Development regions within food. The goal was to attract a European Knowledge and Innovation Center to the region.

Leading Food Region
The Oresund region is one of the leading European Research & Development regions within food with world leading universities and companies. However, the region is not branded as a world-class cluster and the international awareness of the opportunities is low. Putting efforts in a strong international marketing campaign will lead to higher awareness among leading international Research & Development companies and investors, thus resulting in more investments in the region.
A "KIC" in the right direction
FoodBEST Oresund was the first initiative within the food sector to gather all major actors and to brand the region as one - with the purpose of attracting a so called Food KIC. A KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Communities) is an EU initiative organised by EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology). A KIC is placed in regions with special expertise within a certain sector. A Food KIC in the Oresund Region would be a unique opportunity and platform for the food sector.
Intense and focused lobby work was carried out. The project received a lot of support from Swedish and Danish politicians. Lobby work in the EU and in the EU Parliament was also succesful. Both private and public sector supported the lobby work, e.g. creo, Livsmedelsföretagen, Dansk Industri, and FoodDrink Europe.

Phase II
FoodBEST Oresund continues its intiatives in Foodbest Oresund Phase II due to the fact that EU postponed its decision on placing a European Food KIC. Read more about Food Best Oresund Phase II.
