Denmark and Sweden faces socio-economical challenges. An increasing number of the population, on both sides of the Sound, has difficulties getting jobs, education and housing. The contact between different socio-economic groups weakens and tension increases. The most urgent challenge in Denmark and Sweden is un-employment among young people. If society fails to cope with this challenge the outcome will most likely be that many young people will face permanent alienation and social exclusion. The situation threatens the social cohesion and thereby the sustainability and growth of the region.
The goal for this project is to increase the co-operation between NGO’s, private enterprises and the public sector across the Sound – primarily co-operation concerning actions aimed at increasing young people’s possibilities on the labour market. Furthermore NEO aims at reducing the structural hinders that co-operation faces. The partners in NEO are convinced that long term and mutual co-operation between NGO’s, private enterprises and the public sector across the Sound is essential in the quest for social cohesion.
The starting point for NEO is the existing co-operations between NGO’s, private enterprises and the public sector on each side of the Sound and on different levels – operational and local, strategic and regional. Within NEO the different actors will meet, connect and establish relationships across the Sound. They will recognize that their activities and methods as well as the difficulties they face are the same. Thereby a foundation is laid for actions in order to jointly overcome differences. Furthermore a foundation is laid for co-operation across the Sound between NGO’s, private enterprises and the public sector, primarily concerning actions aimed at increasing young people’s possibilities on the labour market.
Within NEO the actors will commit themselves to further co-operation and active actions for promoting the recommendations. Thereby the results of NEO will be essential components in forming a social and economically sustainable region.
